Year 13 ICT Winter Break Homework

The Festive period has soon arrived and we're all excited to be breaking up and spending time with our families BUT we all know that this does not mean we can stop working. There is to much to do and the A2 course is to important to have a break.....SO......

That's right we have homework, 3 pieces in fact. Each homework task listed below is important, so no late submissions, no non-submissions and LOTS of effort please.

ALL of these homework tasks are due in for Thursday 6th January 2011

Homework  1 - Coursework write-up
We have been writing up section 2.1 of the coursework 'Analysis and Deliverables - Statement of Scope'. This must be finished as well as sections:

  • 2.2 'Analysis and Deliverables - Description of the Proposed System'
  • 2.3 'Analysis and Deliverables - Documentation of Process' (DO NOT DO THIS SECTION, WE WILL DO IT ON YOUR RETURN)
  • 2.4 'Analysis and Deliverables - Description of the users of the proposed system'
  • 2.5 'Analysis and Deliverables - Evaluation Criteria' (WE HAVE ALREADY DONE THIS SO JUST MOVE IT INTO THE RIGHT PLACE)

Check out the ICT Specification page 19 if you are not sure what you must cover. You have also been given exemplar work to look at.

Homework  2 - Individual Practical Coursework Tasks
Jack - Use Adobe Flash to design two of you interfaces for the TV Output screens (The dimension of these must be at least 1024 x 768)

Sam - Use MS Visual Web Developer to build your homepage for CF's website. It must be fully functional, using CSS style sheets etc.

Homework 3 - Drawn Designs
Each of you must produce at least 10 pages of designs/sketches for your website/information point. We will class these drawings as 'Draft Design Work' so they do not need to be neat and tidy i.e. They don't need to look perfect, they should be rough drawings and ideas

Year 12 ICT Winter Break Homework

NB: An extension has been granted to all students inlight of the imminent study leave and exam preparation.

The Festive period has soon arrived and we're all excited to be breaking up and spending time with our families BUT we all know that this does not mean we can stop working. There is to much to do and the AS course is to important to have a break.....SO......

That's right we have homework, 3 pieces (4 pieces as of 6.1.11) in fact. Each homework task listed below is important, so no late submissions, no non-submissions and LOTS of effort please.

Homework 1 - Websites
The homepage for your website should be completed i.e. fully functional, css style sheets attached, all menu options present, any jQuery or other features tested and working.

Remember this! You are all bright, you can all solve problems yourself, you have the skills required to find support if needed (help forums, support groups, video tutorials). If you want your website to function how you imagine them then some hard working, time and dedication is required. This course is not supposed to be easy!

Homework 2 - Theory Notes
ALL of your theory notes should be written-up for units 1.1 - 1.6 (See Below). They should be categorised and organised in the correct order; your notes should be thorough.

Unit 1.1 -  Health and Safety
Unit 1.2 - Problem Identification and Analysis

  • Then select who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in that event
  • It should then give totals for : most points won per person/year group/gender

Homework 4 - Hardware writeup (added 6.1.11)

We have learnt the theory about input, output and storage devices. You should add a section within your coursework titled HARDWARE. Within this section you must recommend to your end user or client (depending on who will use the system) the input, output and storage equipment they need in order to use and maintain your proposed system.

Make sure you justify your hardware choices by explaining the need of the device and how it will be used effectively to improve the system.

Year 12 Homework

The Year 12 team have been at it again, working hard and showing patience with their teacher :-)
We finally have confirmation of the coursework requirements Wahooo!! (Just need those books now...come on Magrudy's).
In light of all of this we have a new deadline for the Analysis section of the coursework write-up to be completed. By Monday 6th December at 3:00pm ALL students must have completed the following sections of their writeup:
  1. Background of the organisation
  2. Statement of the Problem (sub heading Problem Identification)
  3. A description of the current system and its environment
  4. Business case for change (i.e. why is your solution required, this is different to statement of the problem)
  5. Clear Identification of client, users and audience
  6. Evidence of relevant investigation techniques (e.g. interviews). Include Q&A’s about their requirements from the CLIENT. Include Q&A’s about the USERS skills (if your user is not your client that you should have evidence of two interviews, one with client, one with user).
  7. A sentence to explain why it is important that we consider the users skills and then a clear outline of your users skills with reference to any particular applications they might need to use e.g. image editing software, Web Development software
  8. A VERY clear numbered list of the Client Requirements
  9. Evaluation Criteria (these are the Requirements split up into Quantitative and Qualitative Requirements)
  10. INPUT, PROCESS, OUTPUT (Take the requirements and interpret them as INPUT, PROCESS and OUTPUT)
All students will be given Monday's lesson to finalise all the content for their write-up (note a 45 minute lesson is not enough to complete all the write-up, so don't think you can get it all done in this session)

We must all make sure that we write clear and concise introductions for each section. Remember, after reading your coursework you and your teacher should have a perfect understanding of what the problem is. You should also be able to clearly explain the solution you intend to create for your client.

JUST A THOUGHT: Maybe you could let your parents read your coursework, as they know nothing about it; after reading it, if they don't understand the problem and your solution then your write-up is not good enough.
To conclude EVERYONE must look at the NEW requirements of the write-up (bullet points above). Val and Shresth you were away, Tom and Larissa you missed part 2 of Wednesday's lesson, so you have not seen the additions. EVERYONE must complete this write-up by the end of the day on Monday 6th December (I think you will need Monday's lesson so that your teacher can help you with the PROCESSING section of the coursework).
Work hard and focus on getting this write-up finished.

Year 13 Practical Homework Task

The Year 13 team have been set individual homeworks to complete in order to prepare them for their coursework project. Both students have been given printouts of what is required from the homework and here is a brief overview of those requirements:

J STAMP TASK

In order to prepare yourself for the implementation of your coursework project you need to start developing your skill set in areas of Adobe Flash and .xml. We have worked together on a couple of mini tasks e.g. trying to dynamically add content to a Flash file via .xml and we were successful in this. In order to do this we had to research the topic, lots of web searches, lots of testing, trial and error; this is how we learn new ICT skills.

I would like to give you a challenge. In order to complete the challenge you will need to carry out lots of research, you will probably have to follow many tutorials, test lots of solutions; that I’m sure at first time will not work and will need tweaking. Think of it like this, if you were employed to complete this task you would research every means necessary to complete the challenge, as your job would depend on it. You wouldn’t give up at the first hurdle and you wouldn’t immediately ask for help, so, read the task below, ask any questions you like about the task but you must complete it through your own research and development and IN YOUR OWN TIME!

Challenge

I require a Flash movie (.swf file) that looks like this:

Flash Movie Drawing

The Title, Description and Body text must be stored in a separate file and automatically/dynamically added to the Flash movie.

I should be able to change any of the text within the separate file and it update in the Flash Movie.

The Picture Should be an image stored outside of the Flash Movie which if changed in the directory would then change in the Flash Movie.

S SKIFF TASK

In order to prepare yourself for the implementation of your coursework project you need to start developing your skill set in areas of CSS and HTML. You can do this using either Microsoft Visual Studio Web Developer or Adobe Dreamweaver. We have worked together on a couple of mini tasks e.g. using CSS to organize the layout of our pages by using div tags. We were successful in completing these tasks due to the research we conducted. We carried out lots of web searches, lots of testing using trial and error and finally produced a solution. You have demonstrated that you are more than capable of learning new software skills, completing projects by researching tutorials, guidance etc. and this is evident in the work you have produced using Adobe After Effects. You now need to apply this attitude and learning style in your coursework task and learn for yourself how to build a website using HTML and CSS.

NB: S Skiff has been given designs/sketches for each of the pages I require

The due date for completion of these tasks is Wednesday 15th December 2010 by 09:00 am
